The strength of scientific evidence is emphasized as a means to<br \/>\nevaluate whether or not research is applicable for healthcare decision making.<br \/>\nBoth internal and external evidence are defined. The application of internal<br \/>\nand external evidence for the implementation of evidence based practice and<br \/>\nquality improvement projects in the clinical setting is discussed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Quantitative research is defined as a means of determining how<br \/>\nan intervention should be implemented. The critical appraisal of quantitative<br \/>\nresearch studies is discussed in detail. Evidence appraisal questions focus on<br \/>\nreliability, validity and applicability of the studies to clinical practice and<br \/>\ndecision making. Specific appraisal questions related to case studies,<br \/>\ncase-control studies, cohort studies, randomized control trials and systematic<br \/>\nreview quantitative research designs are identified.
