For this paper,<\/span> <\/span>you should think about a psychological theme (e.g., beliefs about death, expression of emotion, attitude towards mental health treatments, etc.) that is particular to your cultural group (<\/span>defined loosely, not necessarily based on a geographical location<\/span>)<\/span> and that you find interesting and meaningful<\/span>. Review <\/span>at least <\/span>two <\/span>scientific sources<\/span> in psy<\/span>chology, located via <\/span>PsychInfo<\/span> <\/span>database <\/span>that may help you to shed light on the topic<\/span>. Interview your parent<\/span>\/<\/span>someone who knew you as a child<\/span>,<\/span> or grew up in the <\/span>cultural <\/span>community <\/span>that your topic is about<\/span>. In your paper, include the following:<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

R<\/span>eview<\/span> of the scientific literature<\/span> (at least <\/span>two scientific sources<\/span> \u2013 either articles or book chapters)<\/span> on the chosen topic (note that the literature does not have to deal with your<\/span> specific<\/span> cultural group<\/span>, but should <\/span>be able to <\/span>shed some light on your topic)<\/span>. Review the findings of the past research and explain <\/span>what they say<\/span> about the psychology of people in th<\/span>is<\/span> cultural group. You can also discuss <\/span>socio-historical circumstances that<\/span> may<\/span> <\/span>have <\/span>shape<\/span>d<\/span> <\/span>the mentality of people in the culture<\/span>.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

Description of <\/span>what you have learned <\/span>from<\/span> the interview<\/span>. <\/span>With your interviewee, y<\/span>ou can discuss some themes that came up in your literature review, but <\/span>also ask them about<\/span> specific socialization practices that have shaped your way of being and thinking in a particular way.<\/span> Include at least <\/span>one direct quote<\/span> from the interview (but do not <\/span>over quote<\/span>). <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

Reflection on the way<\/span>s t<\/span>hat growing up in your culture <\/span>have affected you (keep the focus on your topic)<\/span>. In your reflection, integrate the information that you have learned from the research and interview with your own thoughts and intuitions. Are there some inconsistencies between these different sources of information? You can also discuss the complexities of identifying <\/span>or fitting in <\/span>with a particular cultur<\/span>al group<\/span>, <\/span>diversity<\/span> of beliefs within <\/span>the culture, <\/span>and the way you may have <\/span>embraced or <\/span>resisted some <\/span>aspects of your culture<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The paper is due in<\/span> end of the course (<\/span>Aug<\/span>ust<\/span> <\/span>20<\/span>th<\/span>). <\/span>It<\/span> should be 3-4 pages long, and cited in the APA format.
