Employees want their organizations to offer<br \/>\nextensive opportunities for growth, learning and advancement. In addition,<br \/>\nemployees have expectations that go beyond the present. The vast majority of<br \/>\nemployees in the organization have aspirational desires for career advancement.<br \/>\nA challenge HR professionals and learning-development staff and supervisors are<br \/>\nexperiencing is guiding employees toward their long-term goals. Some employees<br \/>\naspire to become organizational senior leaders and will likely be in roles that<br \/>\nwill prepare them for that opportunity. Other employees want specialized tracks<br \/>\nto success, tracks that will move them into senior positions with<br \/>\nresponsibility over products and programs. Another group of employees isn\u2019t<br \/>\nsure what they really would like their careers to be and will benefit from<br \/>\nexposure to different roles and responsibilities across different disciplines<br \/>\nin the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 9pt 0in; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Employees often have visions of their professional future that<br \/>\nrequire mentoring to achieve. Mentoring will maximize the benefit of the<br \/>\nexperiences, learning and development they will have while working in your<br \/>\norganizations. In addition to mentoring, many employees will need coaching at<br \/>\ndifferent stages of their development in the organization. Coaching may be<br \/>\nneeded for many organizational roles and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 4.5pt 0in; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Mentoring<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 9pt 0in; line-height: normal; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The nature of mentoring varies, and the type of mentoring we<br \/>\ngive depends on the needs of different employees. What might seem an easy,<br \/>\nquick session with one employee might turn into an extensive engagement for<br \/>\nanother. Mentoring in organizations may be formal or informal. Formal mentoring<br \/>\nusually involves a group of dedicated members of the staff willing to guide<br \/>\nemployees through professional learning they do not know and may not<br \/>\nunderstand. Formal mentoring may be administered by the learning and<br \/>\ndevelopment office of human resources. Some organizations have ongoing informal<br \/>\nmentoring that manifests based on professional affinity between a prospective<br \/>\nmentor and mentee. The benefits of mentoring are significant and allow<br \/>\nemployees to learn from past experiences of their mentor.
