color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The novel you select must be<br \/>\nfrom a different culture than your own<\/b>.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>There are many other examples from different cultures.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Choose a novel from a culture that would be<br \/>\nmost significant to your teaching\/learning experience if you can. <\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The purpose of this is to familiarize yourself with a new<br \/>\nculture through cultural reading. <span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span>Each<br \/>\nof these novels presents a first-person perspective on a particular culture,<br \/>\nusually about immigration or other issues related to being in a different<br \/>\nculture or having to experience culture shock.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>It would help if you read the novel for enjoyment, but also with the<br \/>\nlens of a different cultural perspective and what that would mean for students<br \/>\nfrom that culture trying to attend school in Illinois.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In addition to reading the novel, you will need other<br \/>\ncultural perspectives\/information about the culture.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Feel free to use one of these references (see<br \/>\nbelow) to learn more about the culture.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>You should also use <b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Google Scholar<\/b> or <b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">EBSCO<\/b> to search for<br \/>\nrelevant research materials related to the culture.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span>All references must be listed on a reference<br \/>\nlist at the end of your paper, including the novel and the class textbook.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Any reference to any information source<br \/>\n(whether direct or indirect) should also be cited using an appropriate form for<br \/>\nin-text citations.<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">You should have at least two references (the novel and a<br \/>\nscholarly article \u2013 defined as having at least ten different references (listed<br \/>\nat the end) cited throughout the document).<span style=\"cursor: auto;
