Action Research Proposal<\/span><\/p>\n

The action research proposal is the required assignment for all students in all <\/span><\/p>\n

classes of ETR 519, regardless of instructor.<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

One of the best ways to learn about research is to complete a study.  However, <\/span><\/p>\n

the time constraints of a one-semester course prevent the completion of an entire study.  The best alternative is to prepare an action research proposal, including:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    Thinking about a research problem;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Conducting a literature review;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Designing the research study;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Preparing the instrumentation; and<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    Planning the data analyses.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


    <\/p>\n

    Throughout the semester, each student will work towards constructing a formal <\/span><\/p>\n

    research proposal in an area of interest, knowledge, or experience.  Students will utilize Problem Sheets to develop an understanding of research fundamentals and apply them to their research proposal.  The problem sheets are designed to <\/span><\/p>\n

    accompany the content found in the readings and supporting materials each week and require students to answer questions about the planned research.<\/span><\/p>\n


    <\/p>\n

    The format of the research proposal assignment should follow the guidelines <\/span><\/p>\n

    outlined in the description provided by the instructor.  The research proposal may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods, as presented in the textbook.  <\/span><\/p>\n

    While the creation of the proposal is an independent student activity, there will be times throughout the semester when students can constructively assist others in completing this assignment.  <\/span><\/p>\n
