  1. Write an 800-word book review for the recently published historical
    \n monograph: The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song  \u2013 by Henry Louis Gates Jr. (Author)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2.    <\/span><\/span><\/span>Employ the header and footer template you see below,
    \nlisting the name of the book, its author\/s, its publication info, and number of
    \npages at the top, and your name and institutional affiliation at the bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n

    3.    <\/span><\/span><\/span>Structure your review according to the format (Title,
    \nauthor, publisher, etc.) provided below. <\/span><\/p>\n

    \nconcise review that includes the following typical elements:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    A. Author Context \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer describes the author (e.g.
    \ntheir educational background, their professional experiences) and tells what
    \nelse he\/she has written.<\/span><\/p>\n

    B. Genre Context \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer tells what kind of book it
    \nis \u2013 if it\u2019s a monograph, an edited volume, part of a series, etc., and
    \nexplains what is its intended audience.<\/span><\/p>\n

    C. Title \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer opines on the suitability
    \nof the title.<\/span><\/p>\n

    D. Style \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer evaluates the stylistic
    \nstrengths and weaknesses of the book, focusing on its readability, print
    \nlayout, imagery, typeface, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

    E. Organization \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer judges
    \nthe organizational strengths and weaknesses of the book \u2013 whether or not it was
    \neffectively structured into chapters, whether it was effective chronologically
    \nor thematically, whether the images, tables, citations were useful, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

    F. Subject \u2013<\/span><\/strong> where the reviewer summarizes the subject\/s of the book.<\/span><\/p>\n

    G. Thesis\/Argument \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer
    \nsummarizes the thesis\/argument of the book and concludes if it was persuasive
    \nor not.<\/span><\/p>\n

    H. Method \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer explains the kinds of
    \nsources the author\/s used to build their analysis and if the methodology was
    \nsound.<\/span><\/p>\n

    I. Theory \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer identifies any and all
    \ntheoretical frameworks that are used in the text and judges their efficacy
    \nand\/or suitability to the author\u2019s findings.<\/span><\/p>\n

    J. Historiography \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer places
    \nthe book into the literature and\/or compares it against extant works on the
    \nsubject.<\/span><\/p>\n

    K. Omissions \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer suggests analytical
    \napproaches, analysis of other historical episodes, or other factors that could
    \nhave strengthened the analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n

    L. Judgment \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>where the reviewer concludes on the book as a
    \nwhole \u2013 Was it a strong addition to the historiography? Did it fail to meet its
    \nobjectives? Etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Structure<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Review must follow the structure explained in class and\/or
    \nclass videos\/readings.

    \n

    \nSpecifically, the review must employ the header and footer template, listing on
    \ntop:

    \n-the name of the book

    \n-its author\/s

    \n-its publication info

    \n-and number of pages.

    \n

    \nAnd on bottom:

    \n-your name and institutional affiliation.

    \n
