For the main body of the work, the number of chapters will depend on the research<\/span><\/p>\n

design and topics, however, most dissertations follow the layout listed below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reference List<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The reference list comes after your conclusions and recommendations section and<\/span><\/p>\n

must list in full all information cited in your dissertation. The referencing system used<\/span><\/p>\n

in the school is Harvard (Author\/Date) style referencing. Samples of the required<\/span><\/p>\n

referencing format can be vi<\/span>ewed under the \u2018Indicative Reading\u2019 section on <\/span><\/span>Pages 12-<\/span><\/p>\n

13 of this handbook and the \u2018Reference\u2019 secti<\/span>on of the Thesis\/Dissertation Template<\/span><\/p>\n

Requirements for Submission<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Final submission of the dissertation soft copy MUST be made to Turnitin via Moodle to<\/span><\/p>\n

check for similarity percentage. Be aware of the university policy for similarity index<\/span><\/p>\n

and plagiarism (Appendix I).<\/span><\/p>\n

The main body of the dissertation, inclusive of all quotations, references, tables, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

should be between 18,000 to 24,000 words <\/span><\/span><\/b>as summed by Microsoft Word. The word<\/span><\/p>\n

count does not include endpapers. All other texts in the main body of the dissertation,<\/span><\/p>\n

including quotations, graphs and diagrams are included in the word count. Dissertations<\/span><\/p>\n

outside the word limits will require proper justification.<\/span><\/p>\n

The following is an approximate recommended word count guide for each chapter:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Introduction (2,000<\/span>\u2013<\/span>3,000 words)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Literature Review (6,000<\/span>\u2013<\/span>8,000 words)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Methodology (2,000<\/span>\u2013<\/span>3,000 words)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Analysis and Results (6,000<\/span>\u2013<\/span>7,000 words)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Discussions and Conclusions (2,000<\/span>\u2013<\/span>3,000 words)<\/span><\/p>\n

Students are required to use the Thesis\/Dissertation Template Style Sheets provided<\/span><\/p>\n

as a separate Word.doc file with this handbook. The body of the dissertation should be<\/span><\/p>\n

presented logically and in an orderly fashion, with numbered and titled chapters starting<\/span><\/p>\n

on a new page. It is important that the numbering system for headings and subheadings<\/span><\/p>\n

are consistent throughout. Numbering systems should not be over-complex,<\/span><\/p>\n

with a general principle being not to exceed four digits i.e. 2.3.1.1, for the first subsection in the third section of Chapter 2. One approach, gaining in popularity, is to use different bold, Italic, and different font sizes to identify chapters, sections and<\/span><\/p>\n

subsections, Chapter headings should be Arial, bold, 16 points and written in title case.<\/span><\/p>\n

Section headings within chapters should be Arial, bold, 14 points and written in title<\/span><\/p>\n

case. Sub-sections within sections should be Arial, bold, 12 points and written in title<\/span><\/p>\n

case.<\/span><\/p>\n

Format of the Dissertation<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Students are required to use the template provided as a separate file. An overview of<\/span><\/p>\n

the format is illustrated in Appendix II and highlighted below.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Size and weight of paper: A4 and no less than 80 grams.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Pages <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>printed single-sided.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Margins <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>top, bottom and right margins are 2.5 centimetres. The left margin is 3<\/span><\/p>\n

centimetres to allow for binding.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Spacing <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>one-and-a-half line spacing in the main text. Indented quotations can<\/span><\/p>\n

be single-line spaced.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Font and Font Size <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>The font to be used is Arial and the recommended text font<\/span><\/p>\n

size is 12 points.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Numbering <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>pages to be numbered consecutively.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Tables and figures <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>are to be numbered consecutively. The number of the<\/span><\/p>\n

chapter should be added to the table and figure numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Length of dissertation <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>18,000 to 24,000 words, including all elements of the<\/span><\/p>\n

main text <\/span><\/span>\u2013 <\/span><\/span>diagrams, quotations, references, figures etc. Reflections are<\/span><\/p>\n

included in the dissertation word count. However, the title, content pages,<\/span><\/p>\n

appendices and bibliography are not included in the word count.<\/span><\/p>\n
