What similarities and/or differences exist between Nora and Troy’s experiences of inequality and discrimination? Do you see Nora and Troy responding to these experiences similarly or differently? What accounts for these similarities and/or differences of reaction, and are these reactions justified? When composing your response, take care to avoid merely listing similarities and differences. Though a draft, this assignment should still exhibit all the formal features of an essay: an argumentative thesis statement to organize and direct your paper, logically developed and coherent body paragraphs that complicate and support your thesis, and a conclusion that brings everything together and that attempts to answer the “so what?” question (i.e., attempts to explain why the topic is important and why others should care). In short, this essay should read like an essay and should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, as well as an original title AND a work(s) cited page.

Since this first draft is only 750-1,000 words in length, you obviously won’t be able to include as many of the concepts—or at least not in the same depth—that you will want or need to for the final draft. The idea of a first draft, however, is to help you to develop and refine your thesis, your subtopics and supporting evidence, and your justification of your essay (i.e., how you respond to the “so what?” question).

I’LL ATTTATCH THE HANDOUTS NEEDED

Write an essay in which you examine how inequality and discrimination affect both Nora and Helmer.
