We spoke about how jazz was born of the struggle of a black South after the American Civil War. We spoke about how messaging in music supported the causes of the Civil Rights Era and Third Wave Feminism. We realized how music lent its sound to amplify voices in protest music and freedom songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 7pt; margin-bottom: 14pt; line-height: 1.764; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\">What happens when music falls on literally deaf ears?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 7pt; margin-bottom: 14pt; line-height: 1.764; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 700; font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\">\u201cThose with hearing loss face daily battles to communication access, and those barriers are put up daily for them. As we have seen throughout this course, popular music is shaped by messages of advocacy and progress. This includes messages of fairness, diversity, equity, and inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 7pt; margin-bottom: 14pt; line-height: 1.764; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\">For your final assignment, you are asked to dig deeper into this concept and speak to the concept of advocacy. In this final paper, you are asked to research the history of a marginalized community and provide a musical history of how popular music is used to advocate for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 7pt; margin-bottom: 14pt; line-height: 1.764; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\">A successful paper will have the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"cursor: auto;\">\n<li style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 14pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: 1.38; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto;\">A brief written history\/abstract regarding the marginalized community and the issues surrounding their community.
