A synopsis of the book (characters, plot, settings, relationships, etc.) that is a<\/span> <\/span>maximum<\/span> <\/span>of five<\/span>
paragraphs in length.<\/span>
2.<\/span> <\/span>Research the book, its author and the time period it covers. Students must cite their sources within<\/span>
these paragraphs using MLA or A<\/span>PA citation guidelines. See the guidelines below under #5 for your<\/span>
source requirements. This component must be a<\/span> <\/span>minimum<\/span> <\/span>of five paragraphs in length.<\/span>
3.<\/span> <\/span>Students must answer the following questions within their paper:<\/span>
a)<\/span> <\/span>Do you feel the book is or is not an<\/span> <\/span>important historical work? Why or why not?<\/span>
b)<\/span> <\/span>Do you feel as if the author was biased towards one view of history and neglected other<\/span>
interpretations of events? Why or why not?<\/span>
c)<\/span> <\/span>Do you feel the author\u2019s descriptions are accurate? Why or why not?<\/span>
d)<\/span> <\/span>Did the<\/span> <\/span>book cause you to change your opinion about historical events? Why or why not?<\/span>
e)<\/span> <\/span>Do you feel the book would make a valid and reliable historical source for the period of history it<\/span>
deals with? Why or why not?<\/span>
**When answering the above questions, students<\/span> <\/span>must cite specific quotes and<\/span>
ideas from the book review selection to support their conclusions. Students should<\/span>
not cite sources from their research in this portion of their paper, only the book<\/span>
they actually read. Students must also write a full paragra<\/span>ph (four or more<\/span>
sentences) fo<\/span>r each of the above questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/span> <\/span>The last paragraph should be the conclusion of the paper where students wrap up their findings. In this<\/span>
paragraph students should also talk about whether or not they liked the book (love or hat<\/span>e, totally<\/span>
optional).<\/span>
5.<\/span> <\/span>Students must include a Reference page which adheres to the following guidelines:<\/span>
a)<\/span> <\/span>Minimum of four scholarly sources.<\/span>
b)<\/span> <\/span>Students may<\/span> <\/span>not<\/span> <\/span>use your textbook or your book review selection as a source.<\/span>
c)<\/span> <\/span>Students may<\/span> <\/span>not<\/span> <\/span>use dictionaries or gen<\/span>eral encyclopedias as sources.<\/span>

The review must also adhere to the following guidelines:<\/span>
1.<\/span> <\/span>Minimum of five full pages in length (page count does not include a cover page or the reference<\/span>
page).<\/span>
2.<\/span> <\/span>Grammar and spelling will cou<\/span>nt as par<\/span>t of the final grade.<\/span>

– <\/span>Remember, the study of history is not just about war, politics, or specific events. It is also about social and<\/span>
cultural issues such as the types of clothing people wore, the foods they ate, the types of housing they lived<\/span>
in, medic<\/span>al care, prejudices, superstitions, how people interacted with each other, the status of women and<\/span>
minorities as well as a myriad of other issues. When reading your book, be on the lookout for these<\/span>
components as well an<\/span>d address them in your review.<\/span><\/div>\n
