 <\/span>When writing a Critical\/Analytical essay, look at what the author\/poet\/director\u2026 intends in the work, what techniques he or she uses to make those intentions clear, and the way in which the characters\u2019 actions and attitudes reinforce those intentions. In this unit, you will be writing a Critical Analytical Essay. For now, respond to the following questions. This forum is simply a way for you to learn how to look at literature from a critical perspective:

1. What are the major insights into human nature that Ron Howard developed or revealed in the film <\/span>A Beautiful Mind<\/span>?<\/i>

2. What deliberate choices were made by Ron Howard to develop these insights about the human spirit?  (think of cinematic or directing techniques, not film elements)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3. Why are these choices significant? <\/span>

4. What impression was Howard aiming to achieve? What was his goal in terms of audience, engagement, experience and appreciation? <\/span>

Notice how each of the questions is examining Ron Howard\u2019s (the director) perspective. In your responses, avoid phrases like \u201cI think\u201d or \u201cI believe\u201d. Phrase everything from a third person point of view. \u201cHoward states that\u2026\u201d or \u201cIt is the director\u2019s intention to\u2026\u201d When you write a Critical\/Analytical Response essay, you will follow this same format. <\/p>\n
