Your paper will examine the theme of alienation as experienced by American workers. Describe the ways in which the capitalist system caused Jurgis to feel alienated. Focus on three or four major ways in which the capitalist system caused Jurgis to feel alienated, citing specific examples from the text as evidence.

Your paper must be arranged as an essay, with a thesis statement and paragraphs organized by topic. Please make use of the writing guidelines I have posted to Talon regarding the creation of thesis statements, organization, and argumentation. Your papers will be held to the standard laid out in those documents.  Use the MLA style to construct your citations and bibliography.  Quick reference guides for this style are available under the “writing guidelines” tab.  Use <\/span>both<\/em> <\/span>citations <\/span>and <\/span><\/em>a bibliography or “works cited” page.  Please note that the bibliography and cover page not included in the page count<\/b>.  That is to say, your five page paper must contain at least three to five pages of your own text plus one cover page and your bibliography.  Papers less than five pages in length, particularly those with unnecessary spaces, large fonts and margins, will be marked down considerably.  <\/span><\/span>Do not use contractions.  Do not make “I” statements.  This is a formal essay and must be written accordingly.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Your paper must be in Microsoft word or compatible format and submitted to the dropbox by 11:55 pm on 7\/16\/23. Double-space your paper and use 12 point font in Times New Roman.  This will require you to change Microsoft’s default text.  Use one inch margins.  Late papers will be deducted \u00bd a letter grade (5 points) every day\u2014including weekend days. <\/span>No exceptions<\/b>.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
