a research proposal is a paper that proposes an experiment to examine some aspect of social work practice by using scientific methods to gather empirical evidence to answer research questions. A research proposal is not a research report. The final assignment asks you to propose a primary research experiment in your area of <\/span><\/div>\n
interest. The sections to be included in the research proposal are as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
1. abstract consists of a brief statement about the type of research study, problem <\/span><\/div>\n
to be studied, specific aims\/objectives of the study, research methodology, and <\/span><\/div>\n
anticipated implications<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
2. introduction\/problem statement explains specific aims\/objectives of the proposed research, research questions and\/or hypothesis, and significance of the study to social work practice. you should also present background information regarding the national and local scope of the problem. after you introduce the research problem, your research hypothesis and should answer social work practice needs. the problem statement also identifies the study variables (independent and dependent)<\/span><\/div>\n

3. literature review conceptually defines the variable(s) under study and cites recent, relevant research. this section should summarize the results of your search for existing evidence and information on your research topic. students will be expected to demonstrate proficiency with writing the literature review in a 3-4 page paper. this assignment will consist of skills including the following: extracting themes for the topic; synthesizing information; and analyzing synthesized information<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
4. research methodology covers the following:<\/span><\/div>\n
        – research design<\/span><\/div>\n
        -variables, including independent and dependent variables, their operational definitions, and their levels of measurement; <\/span><\/div>\n
        – data collection methods, including administrative procedures, measurements, their titles, psychometric characteristics, scales, range of scores, and example items<\/span><\/div>\n
        – population, sample, sampling plan, sampling method, sampling efficiency, subjects\/participants <\/span><\/div>\n
        – study site\/research setting; its appropriateness, usefulness, and characteristics<\/span><\/div>\n
        – data analysis methods, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistis (parametric\/nonparametric tests)<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
5. limitations of the study includes the areas of the methodology that can be improved in a future study of the same nature <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
6. apa style reference list <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
7. timetable\/schedule, including a gnatt chart or calendar or events<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
8. appendices, including informed consent form, research instruments, contributions of each graduate student to writing the proposal<\/span><\/div>\n
