  1. Select a topic that relates to the subject matter discussed in Module 4 – Chapter 16 (Democratic Government in the United States)

  2. Find a <\/span>NEWS<\/strong> <\/span>article that addresses a current political issue of concern to voters in the U.S. There are numerous possibilities, such as immigration, election interference, trade, healthcare, climate change, abortion, corruption, etc.  A news article is an article from a media source like a newspaper or magazine such as the New York Times, FOX, The Washington Post, VICE, etc. that <\/span>addresses a current event<\/strong>. It does not include sources like Wikipedia, eHow, dictionaries, academic journals, or other information websites.

  3. After you find your initial article, do additional research on the topic.  A <\/span>minimum <\/span><\/span>of three (3) sources is required in order for you to provide a good narrative on the subject.  The additional sources can be website or other media articles <\/span>outside <\/span><\/span>of the textbook.  The textbook material should be referenced, but you will not count toward the three (3) required sources.

  4. Write a minimum 750-word essay that answers the following questions:<\/span>\n

      1. Based on the article you chose, what is the political issue and why is it important to voters in the U.S.?<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. How do current political parties in the U.S. stand on the issue? Do you think their stances are reasonable and based on facts or are they designed to simply appeal to voters\u2019 biases and emotions? (See Chapter 16 for information on political parties.)<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. How can social science research be used to better inform politicians and voters about the issue, i.e. where can someone go to get reliable information about the issue to make an informed decision?
