<\/span>You should choose<\/span>
a recent<\/span> <\/span>research article (primary literature<\/span> <\/span>\u2013<\/span> <\/span>NOT a review<\/span> <\/span>or meta<\/span>–<\/span>analysis<\/span> <\/span>–<\/span> <\/span>published <\/span>201<\/span>8<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>or more recently) that is relevant to the course (<\/span>is a<\/span> <\/span>research<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>in the<\/span> <\/span>area of<\/span>
biological psychology<\/span>).<\/span> <\/span>The focus of the<\/span> <\/span>commentary<\/span> <\/span>is on what you think is an <\/span>important<\/span> <\/span>research<\/span> <\/span>study that advanced<\/span> <\/span>our knowledge and understanding of the topic<\/span>. <\/span>The elements used to evaluate the<\/span> <\/span>commentary<\/span> <\/span>are discussed be<\/span>low. <\/span><\/div>\n
The marking scheme <\/span>is also included for your information.<\/span>

Please include a descriptive and unique title fo<\/span>r your commentary (don\u2019t just use<\/span>
the research<\/span> <\/span>article\u2019s<\/span> <\/span>title).<\/span>
You should structure your<\/span> <\/span>commentary<\/span> <\/span>as follows:<\/span>
–<\/span>An introduction to the topic and<\/span> <\/span>brief<\/span> <\/span>review<\/span>\/overview<\/span> <\/span>of the<\/span> <\/span>existing<\/span> <\/span>knowledge<\/span>
on the topic prior to the publicati<\/span>on of the research<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>(include<\/span> <\/span>why<\/span> <\/span>this study<\/span>
was performed<\/span> <\/span>\u2013<\/span> <\/span>what was the gap in our knowledge that it filled?);<\/span>
–<\/span>A brief description of what was found in the research study<\/span> <\/span>(aka the results), and<\/span>
the methods, if relevant;<\/span>
–<\/span>A<\/span> <\/span>commentary on the<\/span> <\/span>signifi<\/span>cance\/importance<\/span> <\/span>of the<\/span> <\/span>results and how the research<\/span>
study has<\/span> <\/span>advanced the<\/span> <\/span>field<\/span> <\/span>and\/or our knowledge on the topic<\/span> <\/span>(see #4 below)<\/span>;<\/span>
–<\/span>Reference list and<\/span> <\/span>a<\/span> <\/span>screenshot of the research article first page (this will have an<\/span>
abstract and the author information).<\/span> <\/span>Please note that you do<\/span> <\/span>not<\/span> <\/span>have to include an<\/span>
abstract for your own commentary paper.<\/span>
4.<\/span> <\/span>In your commentary section<\/span> <\/span>(the majority of your paper)<\/span>, y<\/span>ou should highlight the <\/span>major points<\/span> <\/span>of the research<\/span>, commentin<\/span>g on potential implications and <\/span>significance. Rather than a critique that looks at negative aspects of the paper, you <\/span>are commenting on the<\/span> <\/span>strengths<\/span> <\/span>of the<\/span> <\/span>research<\/span> <\/span>and<\/span> <\/span>why<\/span> <\/span>it is<\/span> <\/span>important<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>How does<\/span>
this research advance the field, provide<\/span> <\/span>support<\/span> <\/span>for an<\/span> <\/span>existing theory or model, <\/span>lead to new understanding of<\/span> <\/span>biological<\/span> <\/span>psychology, etc<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>You should discuss the <\/span>new research in light of previous research in the field, clearly identifying a \u2018gap\u2019 in <\/span>this previous knowledge and discussing why this new research i<\/span>s significant.<\/span> <\/span>This is<\/span>
where your insightfulness will be assessed.<\/span><\/p>\n
