1. Compare and contrast the four different regions of colonies in British North America discussed in class (note: there are other ways of dividing the colonies into regions, the colonies are divided here for the purposes of this essay). While discussing the Chesapeake, New England, the Middle Colonies, and the South, remember to use specific examples of dates, events, people, etc. to support your general observations. In particular, refer to geography in terms of environment and climate, using specific places when possible to support your general observations.<\/p>\n

2. <\/span>Discuss in what ways the nature of the American Revolution changed between the outbreak of fighting at Lexington and Concord in April, 1775, and the formal end of the war in 1783. Remember to use specific examples of dates, events, people, etc. to support your general observations. Also be sure to refer to specific places to show the geographic aspects of each phase of the war.<\/span><\/p>\n

When constructing your essays, keep the following in mind:<\/p>\n

1. Begin both essays with a <\/span>very short introductio<\/strong>n<\/strong><\/em>, explaining the purpose of the essay (don’t go into detail…save that for the body of your essay).<\/p>\n

2.  Be sure to address each part of the question.<\/p>\n

3.  Support your general observations with <\/span>specific examples<\/em><\/strong> <\/span>of events, dates, people, places, etc.<\/p>\n

4.  <\/span>Very Important<\/strong><\/span>:  <\/span><\/strong>Be sure to use the <\/span>outlines<\/strong><\/em> <\/span>for each essay <\/span><\/span>as discussed in the <\/span>Module Videos.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.   As usual, be sure to <\/span>proofread<\/strong> <\/span><\/em>carefully.<\/p>\n

6. <\/span>Do not use any additional sources<\/strong><\/em> (just the textbook and module videos) <\/span>for this essay.  And, do not use quotes from the textbook (unless the exact language is important to make your point)…use your own words. <\/p>\n

7.  The <\/span>rubric<\/strong><\/em> <\/span>is included so you can see how the essay was graded.<\/p>\n

8.  The <\/span>due by date<\/strong> <\/span><\/em>for submission on the syllabus is the end of module.  Early submissions are encouraged, but late submissions will also be accepted (after a 3-day grace period, 5 points will be deducted for each day late).<\/p>\n

9.  Each essay should be 3 full-pages minimum, 4 full pages-maximum (that’s full pages of actual text). Arial font 11, double spaced.<\/p>\n
