\nInterpretation of Dreams<\/i>, Freud introduced his topographic
\nmodel of the mind, which contended that the mind could be divided into
\nthree regions: conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. The conscious part of
\nthe mind holds information that you\u2019re focusing on at this moment\u2014what you\u2019re
\nthinking and feeling right now. The preconscious contains material that is
\ncapable of becoming conscious but is not conscious at the moment because your
\nattention is not being directed toward it. You can move material from the
\npreconscious into consciousness simply by focusing your attention on it.
\nConsider, for example, what you had for dinner last night. A moment ago that
\ninformation was preconscious; now it\u2019s conscious, because you \u201cpulled it up\u201d
\ninto consciousness. (Not to worry, in a few moments it will be preconscious
\nagain, and you can move on to more important things.)<\/span><\/p>\n
\ntopographic model\u2014contains anxiety-producing material (for example, sexual
\nimpulses, aggressive urges) that are deliberately repressed<\/span><\/em> (held outside of conscious awareness as
\na form of self-protection because they make you uncomfortable). The terms conscious<\/span><\/em>, preconscious<\/span><\/em>,
\nand unconscious <\/span><\/em>continue to be
\nused today in psychology, and research has provided considerable support for Freud\u2019s
\nthinking regarding conscious and preconscious processing (Erdelyi,
\n1985, 2004). The existence of the unconscious remains controversial, with
\nsome researchers arguing that evidence for it is compelling and others
\ncontending that \u201cunconscious\u201d processing can be accounted for without positing
\nthe existence of a Freudian repository of repressed wishes and troubling urges

\nmouth. <\/span>During lunch time at school she
\ntries to steal food from the counters and the lunch staff has to constantly
\nwatch her as he eats everything she gets her hand on. <\/span>As a baby, Tamara\u2019s mom was constantly
\nworried that she was not drinking enough formula so she overfed her. <\/span>Even when Tamara pushed the bottle away Mom
\nwould keep the bottle in her mouth as she was worried Tamara would not grow

\nTamara started eating solid foods no restrictions were placed on her
\neating. <\/span>Mom would often buy her sugary
\nand fatty foods. <\/span>Mom would always praise
\nTamara when she finished several plates of food. <\/span>Mom also suffers from Binge-eating Disorder
