The textbook describes immigrant populations in the US (Asian\/Pacific,<\/span>
Latino\/Hispanics, and Arabs\/Middle Eastern). As you know, the people such<\/span>
identified have many countries of origin (for example, Latinos come mainly from<\/span>
North, Central, and South America, and there are many countries in that<\/span>
region\/continent). Same for those coming from the Asian\/Pacific islands, and<\/span>
Arabic\/Middle Eastern countries.<\/span>
Select one country within those groups (Asian\/Pacific, Latino\/Hispanics, and<\/span>
Arabs\/Middle Eastern) and write a four page paper (this excludes the title and<\/span>
reference pages, which will be the fifth & sixth page) describing the police\/law<\/span>
enforcement system prevalent in your selected country. Some ideas of topics to<\/span>
cover from which you can select several:<\/span>
Brief history, structure & organization of the force, police selection process & career<\/span>
path, who is likely to become an officer and some reasons why, police culture and<\/span>
values, function of the police force, main problems they deal with (crime, homicide,<\/span>
juvenile delinquency, homeless, mentally ill, etc.), type of population they are most<\/span>
like to deal with, public perceptions of the police, do they carry weapons and what<\/span>
kind, use of technology and gear (pepper spray, mode of transportation, etc.) and<\/span>
other resources available, response time, crackdowns, investigation of crimes <\/span>reported, use of discretion, interaction with citizens, traffic stops, patrol strategies,<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

use of force, abuse, corruption, stress, suicide among officers, a problem that might<\/span>
be particular to that country (lack of diversity given the different cultural groups<\/span>
represented or low wages, etc.).<\/span>
The goal of this paper is for you to learn and write about other law enforcement<\/span>
systems that exist around the word. These systems impact the people they serve and<\/span>
this will have an impact on the immigrant groups living in the U.S., particularly the<\/span>
