To complete the first draft of your paper, I want you to return to this page: <\/span>Framework<\/a>  This draft will be reviewed by your peers in another assignment next week.  Your peers will be using (as will I for the final draft) the grading rubric, titled “Writing Rubric”, for the assignment.  So please be sure to compare your draft to that rubric for a good grade.<\/p>\n

From the “Framework” linked website, I would like you to use the “Framework for Ethical Decision Making” to shape your paper. Most of the “questions” in the framework talk from a perspective of a decision that has yet to be made.  You will need to shape your paper by reporting on decisions that have already been made.  So each of the questions will need to be reshaped to accomplish that goal<\/p>\n

You have already worked on the “Recognize an Ethical Decision” (#1 and 2).  Feel free to expand this section. <\/p>\n

The second section, “Get the Facts” (#3 to #5) is where you will complete most of your research.  Find as many resources as you can and reference them in the paper and at the end using the Journal of Sport Science citation style: <\/span>Citation Style<\/a><\/p>\n

The Third section, “Evaluate Alternative Actions”, determine which of these options do you believe was used by the decision makers and what evidence do you have to support that belief.  Then try to describe how the other options could have worked in coming up with a solution for the issue.  There may be some references that discuss some aspects of other options that could have been used.  If you find these references, please cite them in your paper and add them to the reference section.  If one or more of the options are not applicable to the topic you are writing about, feel free to discuss why.<\/p>\n

For the Fourth section, “Make a Decision and Test it”, the decision has obviously already been made, but was the right option chosen, in your opinion?  This is why your paper is a Position paper.  You are to pick a side and defend your choice.  <\/p>\n

For me, I didn’t think (at the time) that Pete Rose should have been banned for life.  Evidence at the time didn’t support him betting on baseball or his own games.  But years later, more evidence came to light… so my position did change: Rose Betting<\/a>.  I would have to support my position with references.<\/p>\n

For the fifth section, “Act and Reflect on the Outcome”, you can re-frame the questions to read “Was the decision made implemented with the greatest care and attention to concerns of all stakeholders?” and “What were the outcomes of the decision and has anything changed since the decision was first made?” Again, the information you present in this section can be part of the position you take.  It may provide evidence (referenced) that the decision was the right one (or wrong) based on the outcomes.<\/p>\n

You may not want to pick a topic that is so brand new that there really are no outcomes as of yet (just a thought)<\/p>\n
