If we can\u2019t decide what it<br \/>\nmeans to be Canadian, how can we choose one symbol or one animal that tells the world, \u201cThis<br \/>\nis Canada\u201d? Our country has seen many changes since 1867. Should we continue to honour our<br \/>\nnational symbols or should our national symbols evolve to reflect our modern identity?<br \/>\nStudents will write an editorial that expresses their opinion on the following topic:<br \/>\nWhich animal would be a more suitable choice for Canada\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>national animal than the beaver?<\/div>\n<p>The purpose of your editorial is to be persuasive and make your reader believe the same<br \/>\nthing you do. Your word choice and tone should sound convincing and confident but do not be<br \/>\nafraid of using humour to make your editorial more memorable.<br \/>\nYour introduction will:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>&nbsp;\uf0b7 begin with an attention-getter (a quote, an analogy, or startling statistic)&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\uf0b7 introduce your topic&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\uf0b7 state your thesis or your opinion&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;Your body will:<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;\uf0b7 contain 3 paragraphs, each discussing a different reason why your<br \/>\nopinion is correct<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;\uf0b7 each reason should be supported by at least one piece of evidence (a<br \/>\nquote, statistic, or fact) that proves your opinion is true (cited!!!)<\/div>\n<div>\uf0b7 each piece of evidence must be cited in correct MLA format&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;Your conclusion will:<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;\uf0b7 restate your thesis\/opinion&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\uf0b7 briefly review your three reasons&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\uf0b7 end with a memorable statement<\/p>\n<p>Your editorial should be typed, double-spaced, 12-pt font, and a minimum of 600 words.<br \/>\nInformal language is allowed, but you should have proper spelling and sentence structure.
