Present key findings as a collective rather then presenting data from each individuals – it appears most of your participants were in agreement and/or said the same things

3. Only present individual participants where there are different interpretations/opinions of these findings or where their
perceptions differ from others

You do not need to interpret the findings at this point, you
only need to tell us what you discovered during the process of analysing your
data. What you choose to include should mainly be those findings which are
relevant to your research aims and your research questions, and which help us
understand your choice of title for your thesis. However, given the
circumstances in which you undertook your study, ie the pandemic, you will need
to include findings that relate to the impact of covid. But this is only a
slight deviation, as it closely relates to the lived experience of the RMs, the
complexity of their role and their anxiety, as well as the impact of
inspections. You can also include other findings that you think are interesting
and significant, but you will need to explain why they are being included.

In the introduction to your findings chapter, it is good to remind the reader
of what you set out to do in your study. You’ve done that to some extent in 4.2
of what you’ve sent us, but that needs to be where the chapter starts. Taking
account of the title and aims, what is the argument that drives your thesis?
Another way of putting this might be to say what point did you hope your study
would make? This could also be part of your introduction. In order to help make
your case, you have a primary question and you have secondary questions. State
what they are again. Next, as part of the introduction, outline the structure
of the chapter ie what do you plan to include? How do you intend to approach
the findings?

It will be hard to do this without first identifying what you think are the
main findings in relation to each research question. Then, consider what are
the main themes arising from those findings. Structuring your findings
according to the themes and relating the themes to each of your questions can
be an effective way of presenting your findings.

First of all, we need to know about the lived experience of the RMs. So what
did they tell you about their perception of the job? Don’t forget your title –
‘On the job and beyond’. What did they say about work/life balance and the job
spilling over?

Whatever way you decide to present your findings, you need to use quotes from
your participants as evidence to support your findings. As it’s not realistic,
in view of the word count, to include quotes from everyone you need to select
what is most representative of the themes and points you want to make. Name the
participants when doing this and comment on who else holds the same views and
whose views may be different. Where there may be differences of opinion, quote
them too. In this way, you will hopefully begin to build up a picture that
helps readers understand what it’s like to be an RM. You can then move on to
write about their perception of the way inspections impact on them.

What you’ve shared with us contains a lot of ideas that you have presented in a
creative way through the use of diagrams and tables. However, diagrams fit more
appropriately in the discussion chapter where you have the freedom to think
broadly about your role and experience, and how that connects to your
findings, literature review and theory. In the findings chapter, you need to
present your key findings in a narrative form, a bit like telling a story. It needs
to be coherent and it needs to flow logically. If
inspections stays the main question, the presentation of your findings needs to
make sure it comes across like that, and you need to make a case for it
remaining the central element of your thesis.

When we meet on Monday it would be good if you could take us through the main
findings in relation to your questions. This is something that you will also
need to do for your supervisory panel review at the end of next week.

This order is a rewrite and most of the work has already been presented to my supervisors over a period of ttime.
