In your body paragraphs you will not
neutrally explain the issues. You will present reasons as to why one particular position is correct and the
other is wrong.

Justify your position in an argumentative essay that is based on at least three texts from our
course readings, written by the following authors: Steve Shapin, Ted Chiang, Reid Hoffman
& Sam Altman, Philip Ball. You should provide at least three reasons to support your position
and substantiate each reason in a body paragraph by citing at least two articles listed above.
The essay must contribute to the conversation generated by the course theme and must
incorporate the views, arguments, or theories from the texts that we discussed in class.
Please note that ‘Task fulfilment’ means having a thesis statement that addresses the essay
question, a minimum of three body paragraphs, references to two texts in each body paragraph
(engaging with three different text in the entire essay), and citation practices. An essay may
receive a zero out of a hundred points if it fails to fulfil these task requirements.

Structure and Organisation
Your two main tasks are:
 defending your own thesis statement through your arguments in body paragraphs
 identifying and contrasting the claims/arguments in your sources to support your
position
Using the allocated texts, you must analyse their argumentation and use their arguments (and/or
counter-arguments) to support and strengthen your thesis statement argument. Refer to the
articles in relevant and meaningful contexts, not only for the sake of citing them.
When planning your essay, you should ensure that you have a brief introduction that
introduces the topic and the texts you will use as support along with including a focused thesis
statement. You must also ensure that each of your body paragraphs begins with a clear topic
sentence, concentrates on only one idea/argument, and ends with a concluding sentence. You
must explain your reasoning and use your sources to develop and defend your thesis. You must
make direct references to each of the required articles by applying the rules of in-text citation
using either 3 short/partial quotations (no more than one line) and/or brief paraphrases. You
must also write a concluding paragraph which accurately summarises your main arguments
and concludes your argumentation. A Reference Page is a requirement of this essay and should
be correctly formatted according to the APA Guidelines.
When you are incorporating the authors’ claims to support your position, make use of
questions such as:
 What assumptions does the author make? Are they logical?
 What evidence does the author present?
 What are possible counterarguments to the text’s claims?

Thinking with the “Crisis of Truth” public discussions taking place in recent history, could contemporary artificial intelligence systems replace humans in scientific knowledge production and article writing? Keep in mind that you are not just explaining the answer that you provide to this question but you are joining the conversation by choosing one particular side […]

[706
