John is 38 years old and has been with his partner for 12<br \/>\nyears. They adopted two boys: one is four years old and the other is seven<br \/>\nyears old. John identifies as a Canadian male and his partner identifies as a<br \/>\nChinese male.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">John has three siblings, one older sister and<br \/>\ntwo younger brothers. His parents often compare him to his siblings and make<br \/>\nsure he knows just how far short he has fallen in pleasing them. John remembers<br \/>\nhis father being distant and often not at home, usually working, and his mother<br \/>\ndrinking a lot until he was about twenty-two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">When John and his partner decided to live<br \/>\ntogether, John\u2019s family somewhat accepted them as a couple. His partner\u2019s<br \/>\nfamily accepted John and the children; however, they disapprove of their son\u2019s<br \/>\ndecision to be in this relationship with John.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In your second session, John discloses that<br \/>\nhe is bisexual and perhaps he chose &#8220;the wrong sex&#8221; to be with. He<br \/>\nfinds his partner to be overbearing and controlling. John shares that he is sad<br \/>\na lot of the time, feels fatigued and could stay in bed most days. He sleeps<br \/>\nover ten hours per day and has recently been missing work. John&#8217;s colleagues at<br \/>\nwork view him as lazy based upon his ethnicity. John is dissatisfied with his<br \/>\nrelationship and is stuck with how to handle it. He does not know what he wants<br \/>\nor what to do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br \/><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><em style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Please Note: Some of the language in this<br \/>\nscenario is designed to cause you to think and question what the client is<br \/>\nsaying or how the client is being described. For example, John&#8217;s expression of<br \/>\nthinking that they are confused about their sexual orientation as perhaps being<br \/>\n&#8220;the wrong sex&#8221; is how a client would express themself to you. This<br \/>\nis not in keeping with the proper way to express this however we want you to<br \/>\nexperience such language so you can determine how it triggers you and or<br \/>\nperhaps how you would react to John.
