Choose a moment we have discussed in class and write a paper that argues how this moment significantly altered race, ethnicity, or gender relations in the United States.  Use at least three pieces of evidence<\/em> to support your claim.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Be specific<\/em> in the moment you choose.<\/strong> <\/span>Decades-long events, like slavery or the Great Migration, are too large and vague.  If you’d like to write about those topics, pick a distinct moment (like the sale of the first Africans in Virginia in 1619) and argue that moment proved important to history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Consider people’s choices.<\/strong>  Nothing was destined, or “had”, to happen.  People made real choices that had lasting effects and other people reacted to those choices.<\/span><\/p>\n

It doesn’t have to be a huge change<\/strong>. Not everything we discussed was life-or-death, or drastically altering lives for generations to come.  You can write about subtle shifts in the culture, or how only small parts of people’s lives changed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feel free to run any ideas past me<\/strong>.  <\/span><\/p>\n
