Person\u201d by <\/span><\/span>Kristen Roupenian, the story Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx and the film                <\/span><\/span>Midsommar<\/span>, directed by Ari Aster<\/span><\/p>\n

-The texts above all explore modern romantic relationships through different perspectives, <\/span><\/p>\n

narratives and genres.<\/span><\/p>\n

-In this essay, you must draw parallels between how three of the stories given explore the <\/span><\/p>\n

tumultuous patterns of dating and develop an argument that answers this question:<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is dating so horrific?<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it….<\/span>Ego? Control? Expectations? Stagnation? Risk-aversion? Co-dependency? Romance Novels? Patriarchy? Power? Communication?<\/span><\/p>\n

-Try to create a narrow and creative response to this question that will allow you to build interesting <\/span><\/p>\n

parallels between all three texts<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

-We will explore various ideas in class that can serve as a springboard for your own unique argument<\/span><\/p>\n

Requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n

    One OUTSIDE non-fiction source or an additional text to analyze<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Original analysis of one symbo<\/span>l central to the text\u2019s argument<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Netting to develop and define a term central to your argument<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    At least two quotes from \u201cCat Person\u201d and concrete description of at least one scene<\/span><\/p>\n

    from each film.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    A developed essay with all essential building blocks: introduction, thesis claim, at least<\/span><\/p>\n

    two body paragraphs, and a conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    MLA format including a Works Cited page.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n
