The
\npurpose of the study is to examine, through the use of discourse analysis, how
\nfrom 2012 to 2021 the Russian political opposition reacts and changes its
\nagenda on the media platforms of the Internet to the state discourse of
\npolitical non-participation of opposition-minded groups, as well as state
\nviolence regarding this issue. A brief sequence of steps for implementing the
\nstudy is given, outlining the scope of a study and its’ relevance. A concise
\nliterature review and the formation of a theoretical framework are outlined to
\nfurther deepen and develop the trajectory of the thesis. A brief conclusion of
\nthis descriptive and constructivist research: indeed, the policy of tightening
\nmeasures and violence discourse against opposition participation leads to a
\nsplit among the opposition and their further disintegration due to their
\ncommitment to different ideas, and can also change the discourse on how to
\ncontinue or not to continue participating in the current political environment,
\nespecially the split and change of course can be observed among the
\nnon-systemic liberal oppositionists.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Background<\/span><\/i><\/b>. The Russian political opposition
\nbecame active again during the relative liberalization of the regime in
\n2011-2012, seeing opportunities to advance its agenda and influence the
\nauthorities (Gel’man, 2015). However, after the beginning of Vladimir Putin’s
\nthird presidential term in 2012, opportunities for opposition participation
\nbegan to narrow and become more complicated, both at the legislative level and
\nat the level of actions to suppress the participation of opposition-minded
\ncitizens, using repression and political violence. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Problem <\/span><\/i><\/b>Statement<\/span><\/i><\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

RQ<\/span><\/b>: How state
\nviolence (repressions) and discourses on non-participation shape Russian
\nopposition\u2019 perception of political participation and internal split among
\nitself? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This
\nthesis strives to produce the following sequence of steps necessary to find an
\nanswer to the question posed. <\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nfirst step <\/span><\/b>is to formulate the relevance of the study and
\nreview the existing literature \u2013 how Russian opposition tried to function and take
\nactions during 2000s while Russia was becoming gradually an authoritarian state
\n\u00ad\u00ad\u2013 how the Russian opposition tried to cooperate with each other. Do not
\ndevote that much time on that \u2013 please make focus on same issues but in 2010s and
\n2020, 2021 years. Review both liberal opposition and right-wing opposition
\n(usually they are perceived as extremists and nationalists\/traditionalists).
\nReview how Russian state has been gradually imposing state repression and violence
\ntowards any political resistance and opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nneed to conceptualize (give a definition to the concept \u2013 how different
\nscholars view it): Russian opposition, political non-participation, state violence
\nand repression \u2013 in general and in the Russian political context<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Literature review includes: show how the topic is discussed in academia \u2013
\napproaches to the given topic (methodological and theorethical), agreements and
\ndisagreements about the topic between scholars (political scientists)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Second step: <\/span><\/b>elaborate a theory
\nfor a thesis \u00ad\u2013 how the theory of securitization (Barry Buzan, Ole Waever \u2013 the
\nfounders of this theory; Therry Balzacq \u00ad\u2013 main contributor to the development
\nof this theory \u00ad\u2013 please trace how the theory was challenged\/developed) can be
\napplied to the topic \u00ad\u2013 how Russian opposition tries to securitize state (this is
\nthe case of internal securitization). In out topic we will look at the opposition
\nas a securitizing actor, who tries to securitize a Russian state repression and
\npolitical regime, however, they are not able to do so because they do not have enough
\ncapacity since a Russian state closes all ways for resistance or persuades citizens
\nnot to participate in protest action and stay silent at all if they oppose the
\nexisting regime. Because of the Russian state all mentioned actions, the opposition
\n1) is not able to conduct securitization; 2) splits more among itself \u2013
\nliberals are against the right wing and there are also internal splits within
\nthe movements regarding how to react to the Russian state violence and
\ndiscourses on non-participation \u2013 this is the main assumption or hypothesis of
\nthe thesis.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nthird step includes<\/span><\/b> description of methodology (this will
\nbe a discourse analysis) and how this is going to be used for the empirical
\nresearch.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nfourth step is the research. I WILL DO ON MY OWN \u2013 YOU DO NOT NEED TO WRITE IT

The
\ndata source will be personal blogs (YouTube channels, written posts in social
\nmedia such as Facebook, VK, Telegram, Instagram, personal webpages of
\noppositioners, etc). However, the main source will be the German database
\n\u201cIntegrum\u201d, where media sources are collected in a one place and it allows to
\nsearch necessary speech acts in a more convenient way. <\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nfinal steps are analyses of chosen speech acts and correlation with the
\nformulated assumption. Perspectives of how to apply the findings will be
\nsuggested in the thesis work as well as conclusion. Conclusion is included
