color: inherit;\">\u2018Who&nbsp;<i style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Invented<\/i>&nbsp;the 8:00 a.m. Meeting?\u2019:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<i style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">An Interest-Based-Approach Scenario<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Situation:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;The Pleasantville National Bank has a policy of holding a daily meeting at 8:00 a.m. to go over the day\u2019s priorities, get input and feedback on existing services, customer services, and any other information related to bank activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">There are 25 employees at the bank, ranging from bank tellers to mortgage and business loan consultants, accountants, marketing coordinator, and a branch bank manager.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Recently, the branch bank manager observed that whenever these meetings took place, certain individuals were late, some were \u2018dozing off\u2019, and still others weren\u2019t\u2019 participating, and still others were \u2018doodling\u2019 drawings.&nbsp;One person dominated the conversation and generally seemed to be highly engaged and interested in the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Closer inspection and some informal conversations with the participants indicated the following issues<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Mary (Bank Teller)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;had a child who had to be dropped off at child care by 7:45 a.m. and had to \u2018rush\u2019 to the meeting, feeling frazzled and \u2018not ready\u2019 to \u2018switch gears\u2019, and participate in the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Bill (Marketing Coordinator)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;was \u2018dozing\u2019 because as he explained it he \u2018wasn\u2019t a morning-person\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Jean (Loan Officer)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;explained her lack of participation as being someone who likes to process and analyzes information before \u2018making comments\u2019 at a meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Lou (Customer Service Manager)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;candidly said he doodled because the meetings weren\u2019t stimulating enough and he felt \u2018edgy\u2019 during these formal, monotonous meetings<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Margaret (Accountant<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">) said she \u2018loved\u2019 the 8:00 a.m. meetings because she was a \u2018morning person\u2019 and loved to get \u2018that jump on the day\u2019, get the meeting out of the way and get on with her work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Henry:&nbsp;(Branch Manager)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;when asked why there had to be an 8:00 meeting stated \u2018I guess it\u2019s just always been that way it was that way when I got here and I just kept it as no one seemed to object to it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><i style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">*All are valuable employees in that they are highly talented and possess great expertise in their areas<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;
