Activity<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Who Invented<\/i> the 8:00 a.m. Meeting?\u2019:<\/span><\/b>  An Interest-Based-Approach Scenario<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Situation:<\/span><\/b> The Pleasantville National Bank has a policy of holding a daily meeting at 8:00 a.m. to go over the day\u2019s priorities, get input and feedback on existing services, customer services, and any other information related to bank activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are 25 employees at the bank, ranging from bank tellers to mortgage and business loan consultants, accountants, marketing coordinator, and a branch bank manager. <\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, the branch bank manager observed that whenever these meetings took place, certain individuals were late, some were \u2018dozing off\u2019, and still others weren\u2019t\u2019 participating, and still others were \u2018doodling\u2019 drawings. One person dominated the conversation and generally seemed to be highly engaged and interested in the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Closer inspection and some informal conversations with the participants indicated the following issues<\/span><\/p>\n

Mary (Bank Teller)<\/span><\/b> had a child who had to be dropped off at child care by 7:45 a.m. and had to \u2018rush\u2019 to the meeting, feeling frazzled and \u2018not ready\u2019 to \u2018switch gears\u2019, and participate in the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bill (Marketing Coordinator)<\/span><\/b> was \u2018dozing\u2019 because as he explained it he \u2018wasn\u2019t a morning-person\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jean (Loan Officer)<\/span><\/b> explained her lack of participation as being someone who likes to process and analyzes information before \u2018making comments\u2019 at a meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lou (Customer Service Manager)<\/span><\/b> candidly said he doodled because the meetings weren\u2019t stimulating enough and he felt \u2018edgy\u2019 during these formal, monotonous meetings<\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret (Accountant<\/span><\/b>) said she \u2018loved\u2019 the 8:00 a.m. meetings because she was a \u2018morning person\u2019 and loved to get \u2018that jump on the day\u2019, get the meeting out of the way and get on with her work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Henry: (Branch Manager)<\/span><\/b> when asked why there had to be an 8:00 meeting stated \u2018I guess it\u2019s just always been that way it was that way when I got here and I just kept it as no one seemed to object to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

*All are valuable employees in that they are highly talented and possess great expertise in their areas<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Please use the scenario above to demonstrate how the Interest-Based-Approach can be used to ACCOMMODATE the FUNDAMENTAL INTERESTS of the stakeholders to this issue, and SEARCH FOR A MUTUALLY AGREED- UPON SOLUTIONS.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ve been given the STORY<\/b> for each \u2018Stakeholder\u2019 to the \u2018conflict\u2019 or \u2018issue\u2019. From each STORY, try to \u2018surmise\u2019 and list what might be the underlying \u2018FUNDAMENTAL INTEREST\u2019<\/b> of each \u2018Stakeholder\u2019. Remember, if you can satisfy the \u2018fundamental interest\u2019, the \u2018Stakeholder\u2019 will be highly amenable to a proposed solution for EVERYONE in the group. After \u2018brainstorming’ OPTIONS with<\/b> this hypothetical group, please list a proposed solution or combination of proposed solutions that would ACCOMMODATE<\/b> each \u2018Stakeholders\u2019 FUNDAMENTAL INTERESTS that might be \u2018mutually agreed upon by the group. Be sure to tell how your solution would specifically accommodate each INTEREST. When complete, please forward to newfreedomcommunications@gmail.com<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The facilitator<\/b> records each option offered by stakeholders exactly as presented<\/b> without making any judgments as to value. After all options have been noted, the group must reach a consensus<\/b> on which option or combination of options would be mutually agreed upon. <\/b>It is not a vote. Majority doesn’t win, etc. All must be willing to abide by the decision and in fact agree to use this process prior to engaging in the session.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
