The city can also target so-called \u201csensitive\u201d areas such as schools, parks and libraries and prohibit camping within 500 feet of them. Los Angeles isn\u2019t alone; in Oct. 2021, a person experiencing homelessness was injured when <\/span><a style=\"cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\">Washington D.C. officials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\"> attempted to clear a homeless camp with a bulldozer while that person was inside their tent.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"cursor: auto;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2.068001pt; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: 1.2; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\">In 600-750 words, write an op-ed tailored to any news outlet in California making a case for any local government to either follow LA\u2019s example and pass strong anti-camping laws or prohibit the forced closure of homeless encampments. Your recommendation should be aimed at a specific lawmaking body, (e.g. the Riverside City Council or the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors) and should include examples of why a law like LA\u2019s Municipal Code 41.18 would help or hurt the city in question. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\">As part of your op-ed, you should mention any similar laws either currently under debate or already on the books.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\"> You can choose anywhere in the state, but choosing a place you\u2019re already familiar with and have ties to will both make your research easier and increase your chances of having your op-ed published, (if this is something you desire.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"cursor: auto;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 2.068001pt; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: 1.2; cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\">References in your op-ed should be hyperlinked under the relevant portion of text, (For example, the median sales price for a home in Los Angeles <\/span><a style=\"cursor: auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\">grew 13.9 percent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto;\"> between August 2020 and August 2021.)
