Part I: Hydrocarbon

\nwe live, how we understand progress and how democracy was both built and then
\nundermined.  <\/span>Explain how.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The geopolitics of oil begins with imperialism,
\nbut it has also been important to the social and economic development of
\nnations. What are the dimensions of developing through oil and its role in
\nworld history? <\/p>\n

C.   
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>We need to phase out fossils. Who should do it
\nwhen according to the IPCC and its critics? What are the geopolitical
\nconsiderations and how are different countries responding? Discuss resource
\nnationalism here, under IB or below under III c.<\/p>\n

D.  
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Profit-taking by oil companies destabilizes
\neconomies \u2013 explain how this happens, what\u2019s bad about it, and what could be
\ndone.  <\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Part II: Ending
\nfossil fuels<\/b><\/p>\n

A.   
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Why should we focus on fossil fuel production if
\nour aim is to address climate change?<\/p>\n

B.   
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>We\u2019re deluding ourselves with green tech and
\nwandering in the thicket of net zero.  <\/span>We\u2019re relying on negative emissions and saying
\nsome stuff is hard to decarbonize. Lay out the situation. What\u2019s going on here?
\nWhat do critical scholars suggest we do instead?<\/p>\n

C.   
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>We need to phase out fossil production. How
\nshould that happen? What do we need to take into consideration, watch out for,
\nand address? <\/p>\n

D.  
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Movement activists and NGOs have been making
\ndifferent demands over time in the rising loop of organizing to confront
\nclimate change. Sum up what you understood. How is both federal level top down
\nplanning important as is bottom up organizing?<\/p>\n

Part III. Mining<\/b><\/p>\n

\necology), Blomley (property) and Emel et
\nal.<\/i> (scarcity?) provided you with a critical resource geography approach to
\nresource management. I reminded you of this framework in week 6. Briefly, what
\nare the general dimensions of this approach? <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>What does this approach consider on the general
\ntopic of mineral extraction in contrast to the dominant perspective and
\napproach to mining? <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Drawing on week 6 lecture and readings, apply a
\ncritical resource geography perspective to show how we might think critically
\nabout mining for the transition and about lithium mining and use in particular.\n<\/p>\n

Part IV. Against
\ndespair in the face of climate change: reflections<\/b><\/p>\n

A.   
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>What arguments can you come up with against<\/i>
\n<\/b>the idea that it\u2019s too late, that the system is too powerful, and that you won\u2019t
\nsee significant change in your lifetime?<\/b><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>What resources could you or do you draw upon to
\nstay woke against the mind-numbing effects of dread, despair, apathy and
\ncynicism? This is the place for your reflection (your opinion) on these
\nmaterials. You can use material from other classes, from things you know about
