He felt there was some type of pattern within<br \/>\nthe lives of those who chose to commit criminal acts. Hirschi felt<br \/>\npeople who weren&#8217;t able to form positive social bonds (relationships) in<br \/>\n various ways within their community would ultimately be more likely to<br \/>\npursue deviant behaviors.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The four elements of the social bond theory are attachment,<br \/>\ncommitment, involvement, and common values. Attachment is formed with<br \/>\nothers throughout a person&#8217;s life, ranging from family to strangers in<br \/>\ntheir community. Those attachments create commitments to said bonds,<br \/>\nenforcing the desire to maintain positive relationships. A person&#8217;s<br \/>\nlevel of involvement with their bonds and their community will<br \/>\nultimately depend on the level of attachment and commitment they create,<br \/>\n along with common values, that dictate how and why they act the way<br \/>\nthey do.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In lieu of a final exam, students are required to compose a research paper no longer than 6 pages identifying a topic that was <\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">not covered (but should have been)<\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"> in CRM 349. They should justify<\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"> (not based on their personal opinion but on content from the course or other scholarly content)<\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br \/>\n why this topic should be included in future CRM 349 courses. This paper<br \/>\n should also discuss a theory discussed in this course that would best<br \/>\nframe the topic they identify. Finally, students should propose two<br \/>\nquestions <\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">future <\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">students<br \/>\n should be able to answer about the topic they have identified in future<br \/>\n courses. This paper is worth 20% of the final course grade. American<br \/>\nPsychological Association (APA) format is required<\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"> for in paper citations and references<\/span><\/span><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">.
