In Australia, it is presently outside
\nthe scope of practice for Diagnostic Radiographers to report formally on
\nmedical imaging examinations (Wood, 2022). Whilst the adoption of advanced
\npractice roles, which incorporate reporting radiographers, has been well
\nestablished internationally, acceptance and implementation of clinical
\nreporting by trained radiographers in Australia have been slow (Wood, 2022).
\nThis presents a valuable case for investigation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Diagnostic radiographers are an
\nindispensable part of the diagnostic pathway and have proven to be well-equipped
\nto learn new skills and competencies (McConnell & Baird, 2017).  <\/span>Studies propose that upskilling and role
\ndevelopment benefit the individual and create a more collaborative workforce
\n(Field & Snaith, 2013). Research also suggests radiographer reporting can
\nimprove patient service delivery and be advantageous to expediting the
\ndiagnosis and review of clinically significant findings to the Radiologist (Page,
\nBernoth, & Davidson, 2014).  <\/span>If the
\ntransfer of responsibilities is viable and patient care is improved, its
\nimplementation should be seriously considered. <\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

This proposal aims to undertake a
\nnarrative review of the current literature surrounding the adoption of clinical
\nreporting by radiographers in Australia, with a primary focus on the barriers
\nthat impede its implementation and why a formalised approach to radiographer
\nreporting can be justified.<\/p>\n
