I expect a good paper to be written in correct English and to flow logically throughout. By logical flow, I
\nmean that different components of the main argument should not contradict one another without a
\ngood explanation and that the evidence brought to bear should all logically support the main argument.
\nIn general, I much prefer a logically structured paper that supports an outlandish argument to a paper
\nfilled with “common wisdoms” that are tied together loosely without detailed justifications.

Usage of readings: 5 points

I expect a good paper to demonstrate clear understanding of multiple readings and to bring readings to
\nbear in making arguments.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Originality: 5 points

A good paper would demonstrate overall originality in the argument or in proposing empirical tests to
\nsettle important debates in the literature, or both. Originality of arguments often arise when disparate
\nliteratures are brought into dialogue with one another.<\/span><\/p>\n
