For this week’s posts, I’d like you to discuss historian Diarmaid MacCulloch’s lecture, “The Future of Christianity,” which actually focused more on the religion’s history. MacCulloch forthrightly asserts in his lecture that “diversity is a virtue, not a vice; an opportunity and not a threat” and that “diversity is key to understanding Christianity.” What do you think of these statements within the context of Christian history and the lived experience of Christians both historically and today? There are thousands of Christian churches. Do you think that diversity strengthens or weakens the religion? What has led you to this conclusion?
