On 4\/26\/23 the House of Representatives passed: “A BILL To provide for a responsible increase to the debt ceiling, and for other purposes,” see link below.  The bill is not law yet.  It will become law if the senate also passes it, and if the president then signs it. <\/p>\n

The current law is that childless able-bodied adults ages 18 to 49 can get food stamps for three months out of every 36 months.    If they want to get the stamps for additionaly months, they have to work at least 20 hours a week. Adults 50 years and older are not required to work to receive foodstams.    The new bill raises the age threshold from 49 to 55.  <\/p>\n

–What will be the effect of the law on working conditions in mimimum wage jobs?
–What will be the effect of the law on working conditions in higher wage jobs
