Your assignment is to do a statistical analysis on the game of baseball. Specifically in the National League West. Plan to find if there is a correlation between obtaining certain stat lines in a game and winning that game. Hope to find a clear relation between obtaining any particular statistic in a game resulting in a win. Some categories would include hits, extra base hits, home runs, runs batted in, runs scored, earned run average, walks, strikeouts, stolen bases. Could a coach focusing on home runs mean a better chance of winning? I hope to find out!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nproject requires two components and some peer feedback.<\/p>\n

Part I. Written Report<\/span><\/p>\n

This will include components such as: <\/p>\n

1.      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Cover\/Title Page with presenter name(s)<\/p>\n

2.      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>background information that likely will need to
\ninclude some highlights from relevant literature in the field. <\/p>\n

3.      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>description of your data source<\/p>\n

4.      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>statistical tests you performed with narration
\nto fully describe them to your intended audience.<\/p>\n

5.      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>a conclusions and recommendation section<\/p>\n

In terms of analyses, please see the
\ndetails provided below in the \u201cFor both components\u201d section. <\/p>\n

You could write this up in a variety of
\nways. The two noted here in bold are preferred! Your options are to present
\nyour work as:<\/p>\n

\nPowerPoint presentation like something that could be delivered at a corporate
\nmeeting or a conference,<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>a
\nformal report to be provided to the client (e.g., something you might bound in
\na formal report sleeve),<\/b><\/p>\n

Your work, no matter what format you
\nselect, must be formal and professional, free of errors, and written in
\nappropriate professional voice and quality (grammar, spelling, case, syntax\u2026). <\/p>\n

Important \u2013 when
\npresenting information to a client, make sure your statistics are presented for
\nthe general audience without too much jargon like the word \u201chypothesis\u201d in the
\nmain text. Instead, talk about the ideas you are testing, what you expected,
\nand what your analyses revealed. Be sure to include the specifics of
\nstatistical results so that your work is clear and your audience will be
\nimpressed by your sophisticated methods. <\/span><\/p>\n

For both components<\/span>, you should
\ninclude\/address these elements (at minimum). I don\u2019t want to encourage this
\nassignment to be formulaic<\/i>, but at
\nthe same time I do want to provide supporting guidance. Reports that don\u2019t
\ninclude these elements will not represent passing work at the graduate level. <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Name your statistical consulting firm. <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t spend time on a brand identity or
\nlogo, but do consider the concept of having a business like this and the work
\nof statistical consulting. Allow your imagination to take you into this role a
\nlittle.<\/p>\n

Consider your mission as a representative
\nof your firm. Why might this matter? It will relate to your persuasive argument
\nbelow. You don\u2019t need to include this, but allow yourself to think about it. <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Decide on your audience. Consider who you are
\nmaking a case to. You can convey this in an Author\u2019s Note or as part of a
\nsection of your presentation (if that makes logical sense to include in a
\nreport to them). Some of you have a real audience while others will make one up
\n(make sure it is realistic).<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Then consider what argument(s) you are trying to
\nmake. Tell a story to persuade your audience of the findings you are trying to
\nconvey. This is where you will want to follow up by testing hypotheses and
\nmaking compelling argument(s) for significant finding(s).<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>For this part, depending on what your subject
\nmatter is, you should consult published research on the topic and connect your
\nwork to established issues. If you are hired by a company to talk about
\nsomething like the gender wage\/pay gap, you would logically include several
\nimportant points (a paragraph or slide or two) about the issue at the national
\nlevel, from a historic perspective, and from a labor rights or legal angle. You
\nwould definitely have some references<\/b>.\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Be very clear what your data are. Described your
\nsource in appropriate detail for your audience. The nature of your data is part
\nof why people should (or should not) trust your claims.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>You should include some tables and figures to
\ncapture the issues you are presenting. These should be accompanied by narration
\nthat describes what you want your audience to glean from the presentation (both
\nin the written and orally presented form). Don\u2019t waste space on junk displays \u2013
\nensure that what you include is of quality, is accurate and adds compellingly
\nto your message\/story. <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Along the way, you should be including some
\ndescriptive statistics. If information in the literature or from other sources
\nprovides national or population information, be sure to make comparisons
\nbetween your data and those known figures. <\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>You must include some tests of statistical
\nsignificance. You will need to express that not just in numeric figures but in
\nwords that your audience can understand.<\/p>\n

\nappropriate statistical analyses, coming from at least two different types of
\nassessment approaches. <\/p>\n

\ngroup comparisons (t-tests, ANOVA), analyses of relationships and trends (e.g.,
\ncorrelation and regression), expected frequencies (chi square), or more sophisticated
