For
\nyour final project, you will need to select a health-related topic of interest
\nto you. This could relate to health professional shortages; social determinants
\nof health; health disparities; etc. Your topic might also be related to a
\nspecific healthcare sector (e.g., hospitals; long-term care facilities; mental
\nand behavioral health services; outpatient services; health insurance
\ncompanies; or public health services), a specific health policy, or specific
\nhealth profession (e.g., how the introduction of non-physician practitioners
\ninfluence healthcare access). Your paper should focus on how your selected
\nhealth-related topic influences cost, quality or access to health care. You do
\nnot need to write about all three major topic areas that we covered over the
\nsemester, but your paper and selected topic must focus on at least one of the
\nmajor topic areas of: access, cost, or quality. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

This
\nfinal project is a research paper. As such you must include a minimum of eight
\nscholarly references. Four of these references must be from outside sources and
\nshould be from peer-reviewed or quality academic sources, while the other four
\nmay be from course readings, lectures, and textbooks. For your peer-reviewed
\narticles you can identify them using Google Scholar, PubMed, Web or Science or
\nanother similar database. References may also come from reputable websites with
\n.gov, .edu, or .org in the domain.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

You must address the following in your paper: <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

1.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Please develop a primary research question related to
\nyour topic.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Keeping in mind your primary research question, what
\nare the current issues, trends, disparities (if any), or opportunities related
\nto this topic that are directly relevant for patient care and\/or the health
\ncare system.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>What, if any current health policy (e.g., healthcare
\nreform, proposed state laws, etc.) issues may affect your topic area? Discuss a
\nminimum of three issues\/challenges and offer your recommendations on how
\nhealthcare leaders or administrators can manage them. <\/span><\/p>\n

4.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Propose future directions\/next steps that healthcare
\nleaders or administrators can take to improve quality, safety, or cost within
\nthe broader health care system. These future directions\/next steps must be
\nrelated to your chosen topic area.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide a conclusion summary of your findings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your paper should include:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>A title related to your selected topic<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>Introduction <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>Clear explanation of the topic for your presentation
\nincluding your research question.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>Include any background information (e.g., existing
\nevidence\/current state of the science) related to your topic. This should
\ninclude some review of the academic literature surrounding your topic, and me
\nknow why this research question and topic is important for the future of the
\nhealthcare delivery system.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>Methods<\/span><\/p>\n

o  
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Include an
\nexplanation of how you identified the information presented in the significance
\nsection, e.g., did you conduct a literature review, did you conduct interviews
\nwith healthcare professionals, did you gather data from existing data sources?
\nBe sure to include citations for articles or lists of websites, databases, or
\ntypes of people interviewed (e.g., provide their titles NOT their actual
\nnames).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7       <\/span><\/span><\/span>Significance and findings <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>What are the
\nspecific issues related to your topic area? This can be more broadly in
\nrelation to the health care system, health policy, or more narrow as the topic
\nrelates to access, quality or cost. Again, this can include information you
\ngathered from existing literature or it may also be information you extracted
\nfrom some of the databases we have examined throughout the semester, or
\ngathered during interviews with relevant informants. <\/span><\/p>\n

\ncurrent health policy (e.g., healthcare reform) or practice issues may
\ncurrently impact your topic area? <\/span><\/p>\n

\nwhat are the implications of your findings for the healthcare field?<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Are there next
\nsteps\/future directions that are important to explore related to your topic?<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Be sure to
\ninclude how your findings will contribute to current conversations or debates
\nconcerning your selected topic.<\/span><\/p>\n
