Learning outcome: <\/span>Asses<\/span><\/em> key Africana Studies concerns, goals, concepts and founding principles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Identify an Africana related not-for-profit organization or initiative which has a <\/span>clearly stated<\/span> mission related to justice, diversity or social equity, or <\/span>a and<\/span> which has a need for volunteers. Volunteer at least 3 hours of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153community service\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd to said organization. For example, if Central State University is selected, focus on CSU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mission statement and compelling priorities as an HBCU<\/span>. You may choose to volunteer with a project or initiative which explicitly connects CSU to an external community (i.e., the city of Dayton, or the CSU Alumni chapter in your city). Volunteer service might include approved social media promotion of the organization itself or an event\/program sponsored by the organization.<\/span>
You may volunteer at an organization of which you <\/span>a member<\/span>, or even where you work, if <\/span>appropriate<\/span>. After the volunteer engagement, write a summary paper focused on insights gained from the <\/span>service learning<\/span> experience, <\/span>relative<\/span> to Africana Studies \u00e2\u20ac\u0153relevance\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ethics of sharing\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd and its founding goal to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153connect campus to community.\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd<\/p>\n

Upload\/attach<\/strong> your <\/span>service learning<\/span> report paper, which should have the following structural features: unique title, introduction, body, conclusion and reference\/works cited page.<\/span>
Summary paper might answer the following questions:<\/strong> What was your initial impression of this service-learning assignment; which organizations did you consider before making a final decision; where is the organization located and what is its stated mission; while volunteering, did you gain a better view the organization\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mission; what service did you provide, why, what amount of time, and how useful do your think it was; what information or insights about the organization did you gain; in your assessment, how does the organization\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mission relate, if at all, to such Africana Studies imperative and concerns about \u00e2\u20ac\u0153relevance,\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd \u00e2\u20ac\u0153social concerns,\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ethic of sharing,\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd etc.as you understand them. What, if any, value did <\/span>volunteer<\/span> in this manner <\/span>held<\/span> for you?<\/span>
Do attach relevant documentation such as communications with the service site and\/or work product created as part of your service. <\/span><\/p>\n

Focus your Service-Learning<\/strong> Midterm<\/strong> assignment project report on an organization that is within your future career, adding a detailed analysis of ways the organization\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s professional goals address, or could address, a larger mission such as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153community development,\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd \u00e2\u20ac\u0153human advancement\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153societal injustices\/inequity\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd?<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Focus your Final Analysis Assignment<\/strong> on conducting research which extends your <\/span>Service-Learning<\/span> midterm report by further exploring, <\/span>detailing,<\/span> and assessing how your chosen career field, or your personal participation in same, can be shaped by Africana Studies imperatives.<\/span>
      At least 90 points on both midterm report and final paper, <\/span>required<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

      I <\/em>volunteere at my job during my days off<\/span>. <\/span>I work at DYRS in <\/span>Washington<\/span> DC, which is a juvenile detention center. I volunteered with enrichment programs <\/span>(you<\/span> could make <\/span>uo<\/span> any) most of<\/span> the population there is 99% African<\/span> American.<\/p>\n

      What I learned is that our African American youth really need guidance <\/span>(if<\/span> you could help me word that better please.) They need preventive programs that would ste<\/span>p <\/span>in before our youth see that crime is the <\/span>answer<\/span>. <\/span>(<\/span>if<\/span> you could <\/span>help me word that better) <\/span>and<\/span> cite some youth programs you feel would <\/span>help<\/span> solve the crime rate in Washington<\/span> DC.<\/p>\n

      I volunteered 1 <\/span>hr<\/span> a day for 4 days at my job, nonpaid. I worked on the <\/span>male<\/span> and female unit.<\/p>\n
