This need not be anything particularly profound, but it should describe your entire essay in one or two sentences. Be sure to state your topic clearly in the introduction, letting the reader know early on what your text is going to concern itself with. Always keep this overall theme in mind as you progress through the body of your argument. Each of the succeeding paragraphs should have an immediate and obvious relationship to the argument or theme you establish in the introduction. A research paper is not merely a collection of previously published scholarship, but an original piece of scholarship itself. You should record the bibliography listed in such volumes and look up the original publications.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">J-STOR is a wonderful resource that will search through hundreds of periodicals; as well, Art Full Text (Wilson), which is another database that searches through more recent publications (be sure to check the box at the top left that states \u2018Art Full Text\u2019 before searching, though). Remember to review the bibliography in each article that you find useful as it will send you to other sources<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b><u>Primary and Secondary Sources<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Though it will be necessary to use secondary sources (those written after the area of inquiry) to inform the state of research in the field in question, it is always preferable when making an argument to utilize primary sources (those written by\/at the period of inquiry). For instance, if you are writing about Michelangelo\u2019s sculpture, it is better to use the artist\u2019s own words to support your thesis than a twentieth-century art historian\u2019s. If you choose a modern or contemporary topic, such as Picasso or Judd, primary material may also consist of interviews with the artist, or publications by people who had direct contact with your subject<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><b><u>ArtStor Illustrations<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><br style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">At the end of the paper, beginning with a new page titled Illustrations, include images of works discussed found in ArtStor, a digital image database available.
