These<br \/>\nlatter topics might include race relations in America in the long view (since slavery\u2019s end or even<br \/>\nbefore), Jim Crow as both a legal system and cultural sensibility, the Civil Rights Movement and<br \/>\nits political context, the even larger \u2013 in terms of geographical space \u2013 context of the Cold War, and<br \/>\nAmericans\u2019 responses \u2013 both white and black, both in Arkansas and nationally \u2013 to the incidents at<br \/>\nLittle Rock\u2019s Central High School during the 1957-1958 school year.<br \/>\nAdditionally, the phrase \u201cAmerican experience\u201d connotes the collective whole of U.S. values and<br \/>\nactions \u2013 in short of American history \u2013 considered as a single coherent topic from 1877 (or even<br \/>\n1607) to the present day.]<br \/>\n\u201cLittle Rock was no exception, aberration, or sideshow in the American experience.
