This means you should apply and build on at least one theory of the image’s social/political functions as identified throughout the semester **(PHOTOGRAPHIC REALISM, MYTH OF PHOTOGRAPHIC TRUTH THEORY). **

General Guidelines

Your zine must contain a minimum of 2 original 8×10 pages front and back (so, 4 pages total) that include both writing and images. However, this minimum will be nearly impossible to fit everything in with the required word count (please don’t reduce font size to fit– my eyes can’t take it). It can be as many original pages front and back as you need to fit 2,000 words with graphics. I’m more concerned with the word count (2,000 words +/- 10%), but want to be sure you have adequate space to create your zine with graphics, etc.

It can be old school cut and paste, digitally designed or web-based. ***( I WILL CREATE THE ZINE MYSELF I JUST NEED THE WRITTEN PART)***

You must upload a Word document to iCollege containing all of the writing contained in your zine (not the images).

You are encouraged to include anything you want in your zine (original art, poetry, photos, etc) and to be as creative as you want in this undertaking, but I am NOT grading your creativity because this is not an art class.

You must include appropriate citations and bibliography for all references, including photos and other images.

Your zine should include:

An introduction that provides background on the case study and explains why it merits academic consideration. The introduction should also identify a clear research problem/question and present a thesis that address the problem/question. (The introduction should be approximately 10% of your word count)

The bulk of your zine should develop a strong argument backed by supporting evidence derived from primary and secondary research. The literature review should be approximately 30% of your total word count; the methods and background section should be approximately 20% of your total word count; the analysis should be approximately 30% of your total word count).

Primary research is gathering evidence from the images and/or gathering evidence of their circulation and reception.

The best databases for secondary research on visual rhetoric are Communication and Mass Media Complete, JSTOR and Project Muse. All are available through GSU.

The conclusion should follow from the argument presented in the zine and should identify possible limitations of the project, as well as possibilities for future research based on your findings. (The conclusion should be approximately 10% of your word count)

Here is the word count breakdown in brief (also in text above):

Total word count: 2,000 words (+/- 10%)

Introduction (this is where you’ll state your thesis): 10% or 200 words

Literature review (this is a review of the theories you’re using): 30% or 600 words

Methods (what are you analyzing and how) and background on your case: 20% or 400 words

Visual analysis of your case (based on literature review): 30% or 600 words

Conclusion: 10% or 200 words

GRADING

The level of accuracy with which you have described/explained the academic concepts that inform your zine (e.g., your explanations of academic secondary sources and literature, application of concepts and/or theories)

The quality of analyses and interpretations of images used as primary evidence

Think about the feedback I’ve given you on your activities and discussions through the semester and the feedback I provided on your proposal. **(I HAVE ATTACHED THE PROPOSAL)**

The novelty and significance of your thesis statement (does it respond to a gap in existing academic research)

The quality of your argumentation in support of your thesis statement

This section includes whether you have taken into consideration the feedback I’ve provided during the final project work week and on your proposal!

The appropriateness of the conclusions you’ve drawn from your research

Attention to detail (e.g., spelling/grammar and other mechanics, organization of project)

Did you turn in a project proposal on time?

Is your final project on the same topic as your proposal OR did you discuss changing topics with me?

Please review the attached rubric to see how points are allocated.

And, finally, a word of warning: You can use whichever tools you’d like to create your zine. However, if you are using a free website like Canva and other similar ones, make sure to select a FREE template. Otherwise, you’ll spend time designing and then go to export and realize you have to pay to download the image file. I don’t want you to have to re-design your assignments OR pay for your images.

** My topic is based on the moon landing viewed through photographic realism and the myth of photographic truth, I have also attached zine examples my professors has showed**

Some of my comments in the description have been marked with *** next to it.

Your analysis should contribute to the ongoing academic theorization of visual communication.
