Hi! This is a paper for a master’s level class in music history at a music conservatory.\n<\/div>\n
We want to examine how changes in society during the Baroque period (1600 to 1750) resulted in changes in the music of the period. Changes occurred in the monarchy and aristocracy, in the middle classes, in the Church of England, and even among common people.\n<\/div>\n
We do not want to focus on one to the exclusion of the other-we always want to examine how this or that society changes affected some aspect of music, either directly or indirectly. And once again, we’re looking at England (or Britain, if that’s easier), not all of Europe, although certainly some trends occurred throughout Europe and included England.\n<\/div>\n
You must, of course, discuss the most important composers in England during this period, including Henry and Daniel Purcell, Handel, John Blow, and others.\n<\/div>\n
The writing should be concise and clear, and the points should all make sense and lead to reasonable conclusions. The language should be directed to an expert in music, not to a layman, so it’s important that you have good grounding in music history and classical music performance.\n<\/div>\n

We should consult and cite a number of period and contemporary sources on the subject. Please cite not only the source name but also the page number. I’ve provided 10 sources that should be interesting. These are terrific books that I’m lucky to have in PDF. But there will be tons on this subject on the internet and in libraries.\n<\/div>\n

A five minute search just now turned up a bunch of great information, even in the Encyclopedia Britannica. I also just downloaded another book, The Flute, by Ardal Powell that I’ll upload momentarily. It’s not in PDF…it requires the free Adobe Digital Editions software download.\n<\/div>\n
This should be performed by someone with a Masters of DMA in music, preferably but not exclusively in music history or musicology. I would also like some early draft pages so I can see we’re on the right path.\n<\/div>\n
