A Virtual Tour will allow the student to visit a cultural heritage site via virtual touring over the\n<\/div>\n
Internet. After completing all facets of the Virtual Tour, the student will compose a 400-word (or\n<\/div>\n
more) Journal Entry based on the prompt. There are 4 Virtual Tour and Journal Entry\n<\/div>\n
assignments in this course.\n<\/div>\n

INSTRUCTIONS\n<\/div>\n
The student should begin a Journal Entry by describing what they saw in the Virtual Tour. Please\n<\/div>\n
use the textbook and library resources for further research and analysis. A Journal Entry must\n<\/div>\n
include one citation \u2013 a direct, in-text quote \u2013 of an external academic source (an academic book\n<\/div>\n
or an essay published in a scholarly journal) on the topic, in the current MLA Style format.\n<\/div>\n
Follow these steps:\n<\/div>\n
1. Please see the Virtual Tour and Journal Entry: Classical Architecture of the\n<\/div>\n
Athenian Acropolis Resources section of the assignment prompt. Visit the cultural\n<\/div>\n
heritage site Athenian Acropolis via the Internet, select \u201cEnglish,\u201d click \u201cBegin,\u201d and\n<\/div>\n
complete all facets of the Virtual Tour. Please also see the Alternative Virtual Tours\n<\/div>\n
links in this section. To learn more about the Athenian Acropolis, view two videos in the\n<\/div>\n

2. Compose a Journal Entry of at least 400 words based on this prompt:\n<\/div>\n
Choose two buildings erected on the Athenian Acropolis in the 5th and 4th centuries\n<\/div>\n
BC and discuss how the principles of Classical Greek (i.e., neither Archaic Greek nor\n<\/div>\n
Hellenistic nor Roman) architecture were expressed in each structure. How are\n<\/div>\n
elements of the Classical Greek orders used in modern religious and civic architecture?\n<\/div>\n
3. Begin a Journal Entry by describing what you saw in the Virtual Tour. Why and when\n<\/div>\n
were the two buildings erected? Who were the architects? Describe and analyze each\n<\/div>\n
building using the architectural terms learned: building materials and techniques,\n<\/div>\n
plan\/layout, exterior facades, orders (Doric, Ionic, Corinthian), columns, sculptural\n<\/div>\n
decorations, interior, etc. Discuss and compare the purpose and functions of each\n<\/div>\n
building. Reflect on a modern connection. Use the information in the textbook and library\n<\/div>\n
resources for further research and analysis.\n<\/div>\n
4. A Journal Entry must include one citation \u2013 a direct, in-text quote \u2013 of an external\n<\/div>\n
academic source in the current MLA Style format. An academic source is either an\n<\/div>\n
academic book or an essay published in a scholarly journal. Use the library catalog and\n<\/div>\n
databases such as JSTOR and Project MUSE to find external academic sources in art\n<\/div>\n
history. Do not cite the Virtual Tour, the textbook, the Bible, websites, popular\n<\/div>\n
magazines and books, encyclopedias, or dictionaries.\n<\/div>\n
5. Edit and proofread your Journal Entry before submitting it.\n<\/div>\n
