After Nicole asks Ray if he called his aunt, the narrator provides the reader with some information about his aunt: \u201cThe one person in his fucked-up family\u2014besides his grandmother, but he couldn\u2019t even think of her\u2014who had faith in him\u201d (10).\n<\/div>\n
Reading what the narrator says about Ray\u2019s aunt reminded me of my own aunt. I feel that many in my family our \u201cfucked-up\u201d but not my aunt Laurie. She has always been a mother figure to me. In fact, when I was in my really bad automobile accident in 1997, my aunt let me stay with her while I was rehabbing from multiple broken bones. If it hadn\u2019t been for her, I don\u2019t know if I would have ever healed \u201cmentally\u201d from that tragic experience.<\/div>\n
