Assignment: Overview<\/p>\n

This assignment asks you to produce a formal proposal of at least 1,200 words <\/div>\n
describing a Cybersecurity research project you intend to pursue. You may use <\/div>\n
the template provided on Blackboard as a guide for your proposal. The proposal <\/div>\n
will be graded under the following areas(note these may not be actual headings <\/div>\n
in your proposal but I should be able to easily identify the content somewhere):<\/div>\n
– Abstract, Introduction and Problem Statement (15%)<\/div>\n
– Background and Significance (30%) <\/div>\n
– Research Design and Methods (35%)<\/div>\n
– Style, Formatting, Citations\/references, Grammar, Sentence Structure, <\/div>\n
Punctuation, and Word Choice (20%)<\/div>\n

– Use 12 point Times new Roman font for the normal text.<\/div>\n
– Slightly larger font size for Headings.<\/div>\n
– Line spacing should be 1.5.<\/div>\n
– Include page numbers and section numbers.<\/div>\n
– Margins should be \u201cNormal\u201d i.e. 2.54cm all round.<\/div>\n
– Please have a title page with at least the proposal title, your name, student <\/div>\n
number and word count clearly visible.\n<\/div>\n
An exceptional research proposal will contain:<\/div>\n
\u2022 An interesting, focused introduction that captures the reader\u2019s attention, <\/div>\n
clearly identifies the topic within the context of current literature, and <\/div>\n
concludes with either a hypothesis or a research question that provides a <\/div>\n
strong guiding principle for the rest of the proposal<\/div>\n
\u2022 Clear articulation of topic; a move toward sophistication and complexity <\/div>\n
of approach which narrows a broad topic to a manageable scope<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strong transitions between sentences and ideas, producing prose that is <\/div>\n
fluid, with clear and logical structure, producing an overall sense of <\/div>\n
coherence in the proposal<\/div>\n
\u2022 Use of clear, concrete language to develop ideas; attention to detail<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strong sense of audience, including an understanding of the readers\u2019 <\/div>\n
values, assumptions, expectations, and level of expertise in the topic <\/div>\n
under discussion<\/div>\n
\u2022 Strong control of style, language, word choice, diction, syntax, sentence <\/div>\n
structure, and consistent and authoritative voice in writing<\/div>\n
\u2022 Effective use of source material (textual and visual as appropriate), which <\/div>\n
is integrated into the author\u2019s prose and argument, and is properly<\/div>\n
documented using the Harvard citation format<\/div>\n
\u2022 Attention to strategic and powerful document design<\/div>\n
\u2022 Well-developed sections, creating a strong underlying structure for the <\/div>\n
proposal: an introduction; research methods; timeline; preliminary <\/div>\n
literature review<\/div>\n
\u2022 A research method section that includes specific examples of texts, <\/div>\n
methodologies, and search strategies, with rationales for the use of that <\/div>\n
particular research plan<\/div>\n
\u2022 A timeline that integrates attention to class deadlines for the research <\/div>\n
project with the student\u2019s individual research practices and <\/div>\n
academic\/extracurricular commitments<\/div>\n
\u2022 At least 1,200 words of concise, clear and powerful writing<\/div>\n
