There was a seminar called on “Management and Stabilization of Poly-Substance Use” that was based on substance abuse and how pharmacists can help with that issue. Below are some important points that the speaker mentioned: <\/div>\n
– 1 in 7 people (12 years and older) have reported to have substance abuse in the last two years<\/span><\/div>\n
– It’s not just people on the streets that are affected by substance abuse. At the same time, people on the streets are not necessarily using substances either<\/div>\n
– 187 ppl died every day from opiod overdose<\/div>\n
– Some steps to help when there is an overdose is using <\/span>ABC (Airway, breathing, circulation)<\/span><\/div>\n
– Antidote for overdose is narcan\/naloxone. The h<\/span>alf-life of narcan is 30-80 mins. It also requires re-dosing every few minutes<\/span><\/div>\n
