Framed Organizational Research
“Step 1” of your Communication Plan is to frame your
Communication Plan from relevant Organizational
Research
Read Dainton & Zelley, Group Communication
(Chapter 8), Organizational Communication (Chapter
9), Mediated Communication (Chapter 10), Mass
Communication (Chapter 11), and What Should a
Communicator Do? (Chapter 12). This research will
help you to frame the planning and implementation of
your communication plan in your specific workplace.
Your Research Summary should provide a synthesized
summary of Strategic and Effective Organizational
Communications related to your communication plan.
How do you plan to use this research into practice, or
what you have learned and how is it applicable?
Research organizational communications to include at
least one supportive resource that is specific to your
workplace.
As an example, if I work as a Curriculum Director in a
Learning & Development corporate environment, I
would research organizational research specific to that
area. Whereas if I am an Educational Coach in the K12
setting, or a professor in higher ed, my organizational
research will be different.

Which Communication Plan Tools work Best for
Your Lens?
Through your Communications Plan development,
you’ve framed your Organizational Research (“Step
1”). We now move to provide analysis of your Lens
and Needs Analysis (“Step 2”).
For this assessment, you should conduct a needs
analysis of your professional workplace. The goal is
to look for and identify any gaps so that you can
specifically address a communication plan in your
setting. The analysis should connect to the research
you have conducted and provide for a clear
understanding/connection to communication theory.
#3
Through your Communications Plan development,
you’ve framed your Organizational Research (“Step
1”) and provided analysis of your Lens and Needs
Analysis (“Step 2”). Through these first two sections,
you’ve intentionally and strategically planned
development of the Communication Plan Tools.
You are now ready to develop the Communication
Plan Tools (“Step 3”) as the actual deliverables that
you will implement within your specific workplace.
Considering the research and your needs analysis,
provide for 4-5 communication tools that you will
utilize. The tools should be aligned and support your
larger plan and the research.
Formatting directions: Follow APA 7 guidelines.
